Combining the acoustic impact of floor-standing speakers with the elegance and flexibility of a premium bookshelf system, L/R X is a speaker pair built for people who truly live with music, whatever and however they listen. A compact, contemporary design that punches far beyond its size.
Built on the foundations of the award-winning StreamMagic streaming platform, L/R X continues Cambridge’s proud tradition of audio innovation by introducing the high-performance TorusTM tweeter, a dual-woofer system, force-cancelling dual passive radiators and 800W of total system power – 400W per speaker – to deliver sound like you’ve never heard it before. Your eyes won’t believe your ears.
L/R X launches as part of an L/R Series trio with its close sibling, the smaller-yet-still-mighty L/R M, and the extremely compact, pared-back L/R S. Sound that makes a statement.
Advanced Acoustics – Enormous Soundstage, Bass You Can Feel
An advanced 2.5-way acoustic design underpins L/R X, to deliver room-filling authority with composure and control. The new, proprietary TorusTM tweeter combines seamlessly with a front-facing 5-inch woofer, while a second 5-inch woofer, discreetly integrated into the base, reinforces low frequencies.
The system is supported by 6-inch force-cancelling passive radiators on either side, tuned to an exceptionally low 38Hz, extending bass performance down to the mid-30Hz range.
This is powered by 800W of Class D amplification – a massive 1 horsepower in total per system, and around 135W per driver – perfectly optimised around every element for maximum performance.
The result is deep, physical low-end energy that remains tight, controlled and musical, even at higher volumes. Scale, depth and impact without the need for a separate subwoofer. Bass you don’t just hear, you also feel.
A new 64-bit audio pipeline – many times the precision of most systems – preserves the finest musical details. L/R X also integrates Cambridge’s DynamEQ technology for keeping music perfectly balanced, even at lower volumes. By subtly adjusting bass and treble through the volume curve, DynamEQ guarantees that every track sounds full and natural, no matter your listening level.
The TorusTM Tweeter – Holographic Imaging, Ultra-Wide Dispersion
At the heart of L/R X is an advanced high-frequency driver, Cambridge Audio’s new 28mm TorusTM tweeter, delivering an expansive, ultra-wide soundstage with holographic imaging and vocals that feel as if your favourite artist is in the room with you.
The TorusTM tweeter represents a new approach to high-frequency reproduction, delivering exceptional clarity, improved sensitivity and hyper-realistic imaging at any volume. Its distinctive torus-shaped rear chamber, resembling a doughnut, forms a tapered internal horn that absorbs rear energy, preventing reflections and dramatically reducing harmonic distortion.
A 28mm dual-radius aluminium dome offers 25% more surface area than a traditional 25mm design to displace more air with greater control, while a custom waveguide and phase cap ensure consistent on- and off-axis performance. The result is treble that feels open, precise and effortlessly detailed, even if you’re not sat directly in the sweet spot.
Next-Generation Connectivity and Control
Built around Cambridge Audio’s StreamMagic platform, L/R X offers high-resolution streaming over Wi-Fi or Ethernet from leading music services including Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, Amazon Music and more. Support for Roon, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, UPnP and Internet radio ensures effortless control and futureproof flexibility. Multi-room capability is also provided via AirPlay 2, Roon and Google Cast support.
Connectivity is comprehensive, with HDMI eARC for TVs, a moving-magnet phono stage for turntables, Bluetooth for easy sharing, and a subwoofer out for the largest rooms.
Fine control is achieved via the StreamMagic app, whether choosing source inputs, changing volume or tweaking sound to your preferences. The 7-band EQ gives tight control over frequencies, or you can fall back on a number of preset tunings, while room-optimisation settings give further assistance in getting L/R X to sound perfect, wherever they’re positioned.
More direct, fast and response remote control easy to use for the whole family is offered by a Bluetooth LE remote, with dedicated source and EQ preset buttons.
Speaker-to-speaker link is achieved by a choice of either wired USB-C cable or wireless WiSA HT – both running at 24-bit/96kHz quality – offering flexible placement in any room without compromising the sound.
Bold, Bright and Unashamedly Audio
Designed in London by Red Dot award-winning designer Ged Martin, L/R X blends architectural confidence with expressive flair. Cambridge’s signature “floating” base and subtle ambient underlighting from warmth-adjustable white LEDs give the speakers a calm yet assertive presence. The lighting can also be turned off completely for visual minimalism.
Blend in or stand out with a choice of six bold and subtle finishes – Black, White, Blue, Green and Orange, as well as a premium, Real Walnut veneer. All of them set off perfectly by the anodised orange twinkle of the TorusTM tweeter’s dome.
L/R X is designed to look intentional, not ornamental. Speakers that stand proudly in any room, just as the music deserves.
Crafted for Modern Music Lovers
L/R X represents a statement of intent for Cambridge Audio’s entry into active stereo loudspeakers, combining ambitious engineering, powerful amplification and thoughtful design into a system that adapts effortlessly to different rooms, models and moments. With massive power, cutting-edge engineering and a design that feels both familiar and fresh, L/R X is made by music, and made for those who truly want to live with it. Proudly designed and engineered in London, UK.
