The most portable type of earphones are true wireless models, otherwise known as True Wireless Earbuds. They use Bluetooth of course, but rather than the left and right earbuds being connected by a wire, they communicate wirelessly. They tend to have a shorter battery life than regular wireless earphones, but they all come with a charge case. The case will recharge the buds three or four times.
One of the important things to check out: audio codec. That is the system used by the headphones and sending device – typically a phone – to send the audio data. The standard Bluetooth codec is SBC. It works and while it’s adequate for regular stereo music, it’s far from the best available. Apple devices also support AAC, which provides better audio quality. Quite a few Android devices now support the aptX codec, which delivers even better audio quality than SBC. Best are aptX HD and LDAC. So, check what your phone supports so you can pick true wireless earbuds which will provide the best performance.
