The centrepiece of the audio part of a home theatre system is the surround processor or home theatre receiver. A receiver is just the surround processor with a number of amplifiers built in. Higher end systems sometimes have a separate surround processor and a multi-channel power amplifier – or even a collection of stereo or monoblock power amplifiers. The surround processing part takes digital audio from a source – it may be simple Dolby Digital, but is often lossless Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio – and turns it into pure analogue sound for your speakers or amplifier. Along the way it adjusts the timing and levels of the various channels to ensure that surround sound is delivered properly. Many systems can also tune the room and speakers to reduce frequency response anomalies.
At Addicted To Audio we carry a select range of sound processors and receivers from some of the finest specialist brands in the world, such as Focal, Bryston, Schitt Audio and SPL. You may not be familiar with some of those brands, but they’ve got a quality experience in store for your ears.
There are two great ways to buy surround sound processors and receivers. The best way for most people is at a quality retail outlet in your city.
