The SMSL PA200 is a power amp built for audiophiles who value power, flexibility, and detail. Buy one to use in stereo mode at 85Wrms per channel at 8Ω, or buy two to use in mono mode and unlock up to 400Wrms at 4Ω—enough power to handle passive speakers with serious demands. Its gallium nitride (GaN) transistor design runs at switching frequencies up to 1MHz, which helps vocals sound a bit clearer and percussion land more crisply. Dual inputs (RCA and XLR) connect easily to different source components, and carefully selected audio-grade components work beneath the hood to deliver stable, transparent playback.
GaN: a new frontier
Gallium nitride transistors are a newer semiconductor technology that can switch signals at higher speeds and with fewer losses than many traditional silicon components. In practical terms, this means the PA200 can handle signals with more agility and less distortion. By reaching switching frequencies up to 1MHz, it supports tighter control over the audio waveform, helping notes hold their natural shape instead of becoming smeared or dulled. This greater accuracy, combined with the transistor’s ability to run efficiently without excessive heat, allows the amplifier to push challenging speakers without strain.
Mono mode for a boost in power
With a flip to mono mode, two PA200 units combine to drive speakers with four times the power. This higher output can handle more demanding loudspeakers.
