A completely new design for the D8000
The name DC comes from the musical term Da Capo, which means to return to the beginning of the score. Seven years have passed since its release, and the previous model "D8000", which has been a long-selling model with a cumulative total of over 2,000 units shipped both domestically and overseas, has been completely redesigned from scratch to develop a new flagship headphone. The manufacturing technology of the driver unit's diaphragm has been reviewed, and the unique technology "AFDS: Air Film Damping System*" has redesigned all of the hole diameter, pitch, and pattern of the punched metal. In addition, by removing the magnet in front of the driver, the aperture ratio has been increased by approximately 70% compared to the previous model. In addition, the ear pads have been changed to 1.5 times thicker than before, increasing the volume of the acoustic space. In addition to the sound that combines the conventional open feeling and voluminous low range and delicate high range, each sound is more detailed, realizing a vast sound stage.
In addition, the above design changes have made the main body approximately 100g lighter, and by adopting a special washi fabric, it has a dry feel and a comfortable fit without a feeling of sealing.
*"AFDS: Air Film Damping System" is a trademark or registered trademark of final Corporation.
Equipped with the advanced "AFDS: Air Film Damping System"
Conventional planar magnetic drivers have to raise the low-frequency range that the driver unit can reproduce because the diaphragm comes into contact with structures at low frequencies where the amplitude of the diaphragm becomes large. In the previous model D8000, this problem was overcome by our proprietary technology "AFDS" that uses the viscosity of air to control the movement of the diaphragm, making it possible to lower the reproduction frequency of low frequencies. This solved the problem of low bass reproduction, which was a weakness of planar magnetic drivers. This technology can be said to be a reinvention of planar magnetic drivers. Furthermore, in the D8000 DC, this "AFDS" has been further evolved, and all of the hole diameters, pitches, and patterns of the punched metal used have been redesigned. In addition, punched metal with different patterns is used in front and behind the diaphragm. As a result, combined with breathable ear pads, bass with a sense of volume and openness is realized. The ultra-lightweight film diaphragm is formed by etching extremely thin aluminum foil. This eliminates the need for the structure unique to dynamic drivers, which glues the coil's lead wire to the diaphragm, and reduces the weight of the vibration system to about one-third. By pursuing fundamental correctness, we have achieved delicate reproduction of high frequencies that was previously unattainable.
Machined aluminum-magnesium alloy housing
To achieve AFDS, extremely high precision is required compared to general driver units. High rigidity is also necessary to prevent unnecessary resonance and to firmly support the driver. For this reason, the machined aluminum-magnesium alloy housing is machined with extremely high precision and finished with a leather coating that is also used in high-end cameras.
A structure with a higher opening rate in front of the driver
In the conventional D8000, the front magnet caused small peaks and dips. By removing this in the D8000 DC, the front aperture ratio has been increased by approximately 70%, which has improved the reproducibility of high frequencies in particular and enabled more detailed reproduction of each and every sound.
Newly developed open-type ear pads made from special fabric using washi paper
Not only closed-type headphones, but also open-type headphones often have ear pads that are sealed to extend the reproduction frequency range to low frequencies that the driver unit cannot reproduce. However, to reproduce the natural, high-quality bass sounds that the sound source possesses, the driver unit itself must be capable of reproducing bass sounds, and it is necessary to use ear pads that are not tightly sealed and have good ventilation. However, with all conventional planar magnetic headphones and most general dynamic headphones, ear pads with low sealing levels are insufficient for bass sounds. With D8000 DC, AFDS has been used to extend the bass reproduction range, so that the driver unit alone can reproduce sufficient bass sounds even with ear pads that are not tightly sealed. The ear pads, which have a significant impact on sound quality, are in-house developed products that use a special fabric made of washi paper, which combines a dry feel and durability as the surface material, and a foam with excellent ventilation. Furthermore, the thickness of the ear pads in DC has been increased by 1.5 times compared to conventional ear pads, increasing the volume of the acoustic space. As a result, the sound field is expanded, leading to smoother human voice frequencies. The headband is also made of the same material, making it resistant to moisture and highly durable.
Produced in our own factory with a focus on precision
The D8000 DC is manufactured at our headquarters in Kawasaki. The precision of product assembly depends largely on the precision of the parts as well as the precision of the jigs that assist in assembly. We design and manufacture our production jigs in-house so that we can fine-tune even the slightest variations in part precision during assembly. We also develop our own production equipment, such as diaphragm molding machines, and measuring instruments, such as diaphragm tension meters, as special products.
To create something truly good, we need to get involved in the processing of materials ourselves. The advantage of "made in Japan" is that we can get cooperation from material manufacturers in doing so. We achieve high product quality by consistently controlling everything from the source of the material parts to the assembly of the product.
Designed for long life and easy repair
To ensure you can use it for a long time after purchase, almost all parts are designed to be disassembled with screws, allowing for long-term repairs.

Differences between the D8000 DC and the D8000 DC Pro Edition
The "D8000 DC Pro Edition" retains the delicate sound quality of the "D8000 DC" and is a product that has been adjusted to suit the human hearing characteristic whereby low frequencies become easier to hear as the listening volume increases. Please choose the sound quality that is appropriate for your own listening volume.
