The R8 II is tuned in keeping with the "Portable Concert Hall" ethos of the original R8, but takes one step further, in filling out the large soundstage projected by the series with a new level of detail and density, truly bringing the openness and power of an orchestral performance into a portable listening environment, all thanks to the all-new Darwin-MPA architecture.
Darwin-MPA
The Darwin-MPA (Multiphase PWM Array) continues the flexible design of Darwin-R2R, having most of the same distinguishing features as Darwin-R2R. To work with the internal delta-sigma modulators, input signals are oversampled to 128x via the flexible Darwin v2 filter system (which may optionally emulate various types of non-oversampling DAC functionality via the 3 built-in NOS filters or follow a hybrid approach via the built-in Darwin Ultra filter). The oversampling (or non-oversampling) processing follows a cascaded FIR design with a highly precise 1024-tap opening stage. 16-way current mode DAC coupled with I-V conversion and lowpass of output stage creates more detailed soundstage with good power efficiency.

In the R8II, HiBy breaks new ground in body design, incorporating an ALCANTARA back face. ALCANTARA is no ordinary brand: designed and made in Italy, with a serious and certified commitment to sustainability and unlimited variation in the resulting product, beautiful and functional, it is a key to modern, worldly yet unique visual and tactile sensations.
When we at HiBy crossed ALCANTARA with the R8 II, we created an all new design language, which upgrades the elegant yet utilitarian language of the original R6 Pro with the dual curve design introduced in the R6 Pro ll.
The R811 is a new work of art by HiBy in the realms of industrial design, ergonomics, colour, material and finish. Its meticulously designed lines coupled with the mirror-finish polished medical grade 316LVM stainless steel chassis sides and the one material specified by the designer out of the whole wide world for the back plate ALCANTARA sets out an unparalleled feast of sight and sound for its owners.
Breaking material barriers, creating the impossible
Having communicated in depth with ALCANTARA, we discovered that we share the common goals of breaking with traditions and breaking perceived boundaries.
In the design of the protective shell of the R811, we boldly decided on a novel design: utilizing Bayer UE95 TPU as the main protective shell, we added the ALCANTARA matching the R8II s own backplate as the side material for the case. The two unique materials blend to form a unique tactility. It confers excellent load bearing, impact resistance and shock absorbency at the same time as uniting with the R8Il proper in design language, all thanks to the timeless combination of high durability and delicate tactility of ALCANTARA, the material of the future.
Dual independent headamp circuitry, software switchable.
Universally acclaimed class-A amplification powered by 2 ADA4625-2 driver opamps and 16 custom transistors for zero crossover distortion and fast transient response.
Unlock extra control over the earphones with Class A mode, increasing the sense of power, density of presentation, at the same time increasing control / "grip over the drivers for the kind of detailed, nuanced sound befitting a flagship no matter how complex the passage.
Class AB mode yields better battery life, less heat, at a sound quality level that will already satisfy most earphones on the market.
Turbo mode
Turning on Turbo mode increases power reserves by 25%, unlocking high-power power supply lines with one touch of the screen. Full power full throttle! Increases max voltage swing, max volume etc.

Lowpass filters are powered by a DC/DC transformer + 6 high PSRR +/-LDOs independently supplying left and right channels.

The DAC is powered by a DC/DC transformer and 2 ultra low ripple LDOs supplying left and right channels independently.

Breaking boundaries, allowing remote control of all functions of the R8 II on smartphones and tablets alike, HiByCast allows you to control opening and operation of even third party apps on the R8 II remotely on your other smart devices, opening the door to using the R8 Il in home entertainment, connected to audio receivers etc. while controlling its operation from your couch using e.g your smartphone.
Class-leading DSD1024 PCM1536 / 32 decoding
DSD1024 is one of the highest quality digital audio formats on the market, encoding music at an even higher bitrate and sample rate, yielding higher quality reproduction than CD quality. PCM1536/32 also ensures more detailed capture and processing of audio for a more realistic and natural sound.
